Retailers not expecting miracle sales
Retailers aren’t holding their breathe for huge sales this year. Infact, walking into any shop you can see that they’re nervous. Almost everybody is having pre-christmas sales - and lots of them. Shoppers no longer have to wait for the traditional boxing day sales, and may infact pick up better deals if they buy pre-christmas.
Buy one get one free, free gift with purchase, 30 - 50% off everything… the list of bragains goes on.
A recent article from inside retailing quoted ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman as saying ““Retailers are usually optimistic in the lead up to Christmas but this year their spirits have been dampened with over 60 per cent of retailers expecting trade over the Christmas period to be lower than last year.”
Although it’s great for customers, we have to think about the retailers too- some of whom are struggling after the GFC. When shopping for Christmas pressies, why not support your favourite stores.
