Increase in online marketing spend forecast for Australia

Inside Retailing has reported that “Eighty-six per cent of large Australian retail chains expect to increase their spending on online marketing during the next 12 months - and none plan to reduce it”

The results found by Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University, supported by AIMIA’s Retail Industry Group have shown that Australian retailers are looking at online marketing and seeing great potential. 85% of respondents said that they believed that being proactive with online marketing and sales would provide competitive advantage in the future.

It appears that companies will be spending the most on search engine optimisation (SEO) and email marketing. Retailers are also looking at spending on onilne catelogues and search engine marketing.

Retail is a tough market, and keeping up with the big guns is an ever present need. It will be interesting to see what changes will be made in the upcoming years. With retailers offering online shopping as well as interactive websites and online-only deals they are really catering to consumer wants. Numerous reports are showing that consumers are now spending more time online - researching and buying products - so it looks like the move to spend more resources on online can only be good for retailers.
