Even with all its opportunities and advantages, people often still “fall into” retail and don’t always initially see it as a viable, smart, career choice.
Retailworld has proactively set out to change perceptions about careers in retail, through a national public relations programme (the Retail Positioning Programme) aimed at secondary schools, university students and graduates as well as the wider community.
The Programme involves advertising and editorial in the press and online, school presentations, school career fairs, university career fairs, community career expo’s, and exciting initiatives like university lecture planners promoting careers in retail, the Career Map and Retail Rush supplement.
The retail Career Map is a fantastic communication tool of the Programme. It demonstrates the diversity of roles available within the retail industry as well as the career path opportunities. The map includes advertising for a variety of Australian retailers from different industries. It is distributed to Career’s Advisor’s in secondary schools throughout Australia as well as training institutes, career service organisations and other community groups.
The Retail Positioning Programme is a key driver in the Retail Rush supplement - published in The Age bi-annually. The supplement includes fantastic editorial on industry related issues as well as retail success stories - to encourage people not already in retail to consider it as a career option.
The strength of our message will be stronger through demonstrating a united front. More like-minded retailers participating in our campaign that fit the brief by “walking the talk” through providing structured training and career advancement opportunities will ensure that we are the number one industry when people think of their career.
